Fiber media convertersare simple networking devices that make it possible to connect two dissimilar media types such as twisted pair with fiber optic cabling. They were introduced to the industry nearly two decades ago, and are important in interconnecting fiber optic IMC Networks, a manufacturer of optical access and media conversion solutions for LAN, MAN, and FTTx applications, has unveiled its new IE-iMcV-2xLIM, TX/SFP, 100 Mbps Ethernet-based media converter module.

The new IE-iMcV-2xLIM, TX/SFP dual media converter module joins the company’s existing iMcV-LIM Series. IMC offers a standard 100 TX-based module and this new release, the company claims, offers double the port density compared to the earlier product.

The company intends to ship the IE-iMcV-2xLIM in May through its extensive network of distributors.

"The core feature of the IE-iMcV-2xLIM is its ability to double the capacity of any IMC Networks chassis," said David Zaveski, senior sales engineer at IMC Networks. "Additionally, low latency is achieved via internal architecture that does not require a 'store and forward' switch chip, which in turn lowers the final cost of the product."

IMC Networks' new product offers several benefits; including two independent fixed rate 100 Mbps copper-to-fiber conversions on a single-wide card and double the capacity.

This module promises full bandwidth frame with no frame size limitation, remote management, and troubleshooting features through a managed chassis or with additional DDMI SFP support.

Other features include auto MDI/MDIX operation, Configuration Control, low latency, extended temperature range -40º C to +80º C and transparent to Layer 2 and 3 protocols.

Finally, the module also supports multiple fiber optic wavelengths by leveraging industry standard MSA-or Cisco -compliant SFP modules.
