Telecom Italia to Build Fiber-Optic Network for Vatican City
Telecom Italia SpA, Italy’s biggest phone company, has signed an accord with the Vatican to build a fiber-optic network at the Holy See.
The infrastructure will be used for high-speed data and phone and video services, according to an e-mailed statement today. The grid will extend for more than 400 kilometers (249 miles) and replace the Holy See’s current infrastructure.
Telecom Italia won a three-year contract, renewable every year in the following five years, to provide design, installation and configuration services. It will also test platforms, and provide technical training, help-desk and maintenance services.
